ENDOSCOPIC GENDER DETERMINATION

In certain reptiles (lizards, turtles) gender determination is nearly impossible from outside characteristics (gender dimorphism, behaviour). In these cases endoscopic gender determination can be necessary, which we practice regularly at our clinic. The examination is done under general anesthesia, with a fine endoscopic probe inserted in the body cavity through a small incision. Once we find the juvenile or fully developed gonads of the animal depending on their age, it is easy to determine their gender.
